Facilitating a learning community focused on the elderly

As Linking and Learning facilitators for the Voice program in Nigeria, Cognito collaborated with various organizations and networks in 2021 to examine the state of eldercare in Nigeria. This baseline study aimed to support advocacy and interventions within this sector. Findings revealed a significant knowledge gap in basic caregiving skills, as caregiving responsibilities are often culturally assigned to untrained family members. In response, the Community of Practice (CoP) on Elderly organized a growth clinic and created a How-To Guide for Caregivers in Nigeria, drawing from their collective experience and expertise. The community conducted further research in 2024 to assess eldercare in Nigeria, focusing on the policy environment and available services for older persons.
